Project Overview
TCi furniture WORKS was appointed to deliver a comprehensive furniture installation inside a live, high-security prison construction site for a £500m Ministry of Justice development. Operating within a tightly controlled environment, the project required efficient programme management, close coordination with the principal contractor, and flexibility to accommodate evolving site requirements.
The installation was completed over six days, supported by a team of seven operatives, ensuring delivery within programme while maintaining a high standard of workmanship throughout.
Scope of Works
TCi furniture WORKS provided and installed furniture across a range of operational spaces, including:
- Staff welfare and canteen facilities
- Changing areas
- Gym and fitness space
- Administrative offices
- Meeting rooms and boardroom accommodation
The fit-out also included state of the art Gym facilities with treadmills, weight benches, rowing machines, Ski Machines, Air bikes (with PM5 Monitors), Kettlebell Set & Weight Rack, Power racks, and Mirrors, all laid across full coverage floor rubber mat alongside associated ancillary furniture.
Delivery & Successes
Despite the constraints of a secure and live construction environment, the installation was delivered efficiently, on programme and to a high standard.
- All installation documentation was signed off promptly, with the client expressing appreciation for the speed of installation and professional approach adopted on site.
- Lockers and drying benches were fully assembled and securely bolted down in accordance with site safety and security requirements.
- Following a client request for additional restraint measures to the lockers, TCi worked collaboratively to agree a solution and supported the works by supplying additional fixings as a gesture of goodwill, ensuring no impact to programme.
- All waste materials were removed from site, leaving the building clean, organised, and ready for occupation.
Challenges & Solutions
TCi addressed each challenge as it arose proactively, to protect programme and quality:
- Four-tier lockers required fixings; TCi sourced and installed the required materials to complete the works without delay.
- Gym equipment, including a multi-gym and treadmill, was repositioned to account for structural steel locations and floor loading limits, maintaining safety and compliance.
- Changes to the delivery schedule temporarily increased waste volumes and extended site time; however, TCi ensured all materials were cleared and the installation remained on track.
Outcome
The client was very pleased with both the timescale of the installation and the quality of the finished spaces, noting in particular the standard to which the building was left following completion. TCi’s responsive, solutions-focused approach ensured a smooth handover and reinforced confidence in the delivery team.
Added Value
Throughout the project, TCi demonstrated a commitment to going beyond core installation requirements by:
- Responding quickly to design changes and evolving site constraints
- Supporting client requests with practical, cost-conscious solutions
- Maintaining a clean and well-managed working environment on a live site
- Protecting programme through proactive problem-solving and on-site decision making
This added-value approach ensured the project was delivered efficiently, compliantly, and to a standard aligned with the expectations of a major justice-sector development.
