EDF Hinkley Point C Induction Centre

In 2016 TCi (GB) Ltd won the competitive tender to become EDF’s preferred tier 1 contractor for FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment).

The appointment recognises the ability of the company to operate at a very high level and has allowed us to provide opportunities, in turn, for the local manufacturers we use wherever possible, including a range of bespoke furniture from South-Molton-based Willoughby Ltd.

The stand out project delivery of the contract to date has been the full refurbishment and fit-out of the HPC Induction Centre, based at the Somerset Energy & Innovation Centre (SEIC). This was a key focus point and milestone. Knowing full well that the environment created will give the very first impression to all personnel involved in the project; it was essential that this demonstrated its ‘World Class’ status and reflected the values and standards of HPC. It was important to specify high-end, modern facilities from top quality designers and manufacturers, with emphasis on good space planning to make the most of the environment. A proactive vision helped shape the building design to ensure that use of space was optimised and flexible. TCi (GB) Ltd ensured that all selected specific items of FF&E were not only practical and suitable for function, but the selection of materials and colours provided a professional and vibrant environment. Examples
include the provision of stackable meeting tables and a trackless glass partition system to create a multifunctional large space this took a considerable amount of collaboration across many suppliers, and management of lead times.

TCi (GB) Ltd provided a full refurbishment service, beyond the scope of the main contract, adding value and continuity. As part of this arrangement, M&E, decorating and even kitchen facilities were installed into what was then an unfinished building. Working on a tight schedule, the furniture installation was completed extremely quickly.

Proud to have been awarded such a prestigious contract at this world-famous development, TCi (GB) Ltd is working hard to ensure successful delivery at every stage. We believe that our work at SEIC is an exceptional example of the type of project management and supplier-customer relationships we all aspire to. Although we are governed in-part by procedures already adopted by HPC to manage contractors, it has been necessary to work with the customer and our suppliers to establish the best working methods.

The outcome has been an open-plan facility of the very highest quality, with deep consideration for its purpose through strong collaboration with the end user. Our expertise has been invaluable in providing exactly the right products to complete the project on time and within budget to exceed all expectations. From discreet acoustic panelling to brightly coloured, impressive
breakout furniture and innovative height-adjustable desks, every element of the install makes a vital contribution.
